- She didn't take this route most days because her mom told her not to, but she didn't see the harm in doing it just this one time to get to school.
- Through the dark green leaves and tall trees Grace ran to school, trying to avoid the rain the best she could.
- For show and tell, she had packed Mira, her carved elephant.
- She likes bringing Mira most places. Mira has been around the world with Gracie. So she was quite surprised when she opened her bag after recess to find Mira gone. Gracie's mom had always told her that whenever she felt scared or like she was floating away, to hold onto Mira.
- Today was show and tell day at school
- After searching, Gracie had nothing for show and tell. This made Gracie feel bad about herself compared to the other kids.
- Gracie started to panic not knowing where Mira was.
- She asked her teacher Ms. Green if she had seen Mira.Ms. Green helped Gracie look for Mira, but they couldn't find it.
- Gracie wanted to share something with the class, and thought maybe Ben's stuffy would bring her comfort like her item Mira did. But she found that it didn’t.Then she took Jacks and then Allie’s but found that as many people she tried to take from, none of these objects would bring her the same comfort that Mira did.
- She went to bed worried about Mira.The next morning she woke up to it raining hard for the second day in a row.
- None of them could replace Mira.
- After a long day at school Gracie went home.At home Gracie looked more for Mira.She was confused because she thought she had put it in her bag this morning.
- This morning on her way to school she decided to go through the forest again, to avoid the rain.While looking up at the birds and leaves she stumbled on something.
- She looked down at her feet and saw Mira. Covered in mud, but still in perfect shape.Relieved to have found Mira. The warm feeling in Gracie's chest returned. She felt safe.Gracie made sure to put Mira in her backpack and zip it completely shut. And happily ran on to school.
