Storyboard Text

  • May 17th, 1787 a constitutional event was called to discuss the government. By May 25th delegates arrive in Pennsylvania.
  • Where are the others?
  • Greetings Washington! Its good to see you.
  • During this convention, all delegates had to take an oath of office, which is a vow of sworn secrecy. It was stressed that information discussed at the convention would not be leaked to the public.
  • "We solemnly affirm all info shared in this building will remain in this building, between us noble men."
  • Many delegates including Thomas Jefferson and John Addams couldn't make it. Patrick Henry refused to go- being a proud anti federalist, because he believed the other delegates/leader would overturn the monarchy.
  • "I absolutely refuse to attend this foolery! Something is not right here, This wont end well!"
  • ConventionWhere we will discuss private affairs on new forms of government and alignment of unity.
  • · On May 29, Governor Edmund Randolph caused trouble after presenting the Virginia plan. Which was created by James Madison. The plan reflected Madisons beliefs on how the nations survival is dependent on federalism or division of powers between the central and state government.
  • "We'd have three branches, multiple people to work with and congress can do so much more... What more do we need?"
  • "My, that is absolutely preposterous!"
  • Trouble broke once again when the men discussed the legislative. · as it would only benefit states like VA and PA who had larger populations, smaller populated states felt it was right to have an equal number per state
  • "We can't depend on this for accurate results!"
  • "I agree, this plan will only benefit a handful of states, Its only right if there is an equal amount of representatives per state."
  • · William Paterson creates New Jersey Plan an alternative to the PA plan. His plan would work the same as previously with only one branch and one vote per state, government would have power to tax and regulate commerce.
  • "This plan will have a central form of government that controls the union..."
