Storyboard Text

  • The weather is ferocious and it’s hard to overcome.
  • “Fifty degrees below zero meant 80 degrees of frost. Such facts told him that it was cold and uncomfortable, and that was all” (pg.65 London).
  • The man is foolish and that is one of the reasons of his death.
  • “He had forgotten to build a fire and warm himself” (London pg.69).
  • The dog is intuitive which is one of the reasons why the dog survives.
  • “Something was wrong and it sensed danger. It knew not what danger, but somewhere in its brain arose a fear of the man”(London pg. 76).

  • This evidence proves that the weather is hard to overcome because 80 degrees of frost is uncomfortable and it’s hard to adjust to a severe environment. In the picture it’s showing how it’s dark outside which is harder to manage.
  • The man is resourceful because of his surroundings.
  • The evidence supports the claim because it’s stupid to forget to build a fire when it’s 50 degrees below zero. At the end of the story he’s sitting in the snow without building a fire. Even the dog thought that he was foolish. It eventually led to his death.
  • The dog is loyal to the man because of its fears.
  • The dog was sorry to leave and looked toward the fire. This man did not known cold. Possibly none of his ancestors had know cold, real cold. But the dog knew and all of its family knew. And it knew that it was not good to walk outside in such fearful cold” (pg.70 London).
  • This ties back to the claim because it’s showing that the dog knows something is wrong just by the environment. He can sense that the man is about to do something dangerous and it knows that it’s not a good idea. It’s intuitiveness helped the dog because it ends up surviving while the man is dead.
  • The Fire represents to be alive or dead.
  • “To build the fire he had been forced to remove his mittens, and the fingers had quickly become numb. His pace of four miles an hour had kept his heart pushing the blood to all parts of his body” (pg.71 London).
  • The evidence connects to claim because it showcases the man’s resourcefulness by trying to build a fire. Resourcefulness is using surroundings around you make yourself comfortable. He finds firewood in trees and he makes a flame by touching a match to a tree bark. He finds creative solutions to make situations better by making himself warm.
  • “On top, under several small pine trees, he found some firewood which had been carried there by the high water of last year” (pg.71 London).
  • The dog wants to leave the man but it feels conflicted because it cares about the man but it cares about itself too. It doesn’t take a walk in the cold and also where it’s dark because a lot of dangerous things could happen to it. So he benefits himself by staying in the cold with the man.
  • The man has to build the fire to stay alive but he has to loose a lot of things to build it. He has take of his mittens off and has to keep the fire warm for a long time. By preparing this fire it could lead him to death because he’s not covered properly, but it could also lead him to stay alive because this is his main source of comfort.
