- Hi Kate, Today is such a beautiful day and with these gorgeous skies, Dubai just looks 10 times more beautiful.
- Hi Anne, I just cannot agree more!! But do you know that today is the death anniversary of the ruler who changed the way Dubai looks today.
- No Kate, but are you talking about Late Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum?
- No Kate, we have learnt about him in school but I don't know much about him and his life.
- Yes Anne, Do you know what all he has done for this nation ?
- Okay, let me tell you more about this great leader and his life.
- Sheikh rashid was born on 11 june 1912 and passed away on 7th october 1990. He has 4 sons and 4 daughters. He was the prime minister and the ruler of Dubai. His hobbies were falconry, horse riding and camel riding.
- There are many more achievements of Sheikh Rashid. no matter how much i speak about him, it won't be enough to tell what all he has done for this nation. We miss and remember him everyday in our thoughts. I hope that you got t know something about this great soul.
- He was one of the founding fathers of the UAE. He has played a major role in the formation of the UAE along with H.H. Sheikh Zayed. He has developed Dubai from a place with deserts into one of the most famous tourist cities and industrial hubs of the world. He had a concern that the oil found in UAE would get over and he thus worried of UAE's economy. For this, he transformed Dubai into a major trade hub and developed its infrastructure.
- Why did you bring me to a desert ?
- The reason why i brought you here is to show you the difference in Dubai today and 50 years back. Sheikh rashid changed Dubai from this to the one that we live in today. Some of the major infrastructure that he built are : Jebel Ali Port in 1979, Port Rashid in 1972, Dubai World Trade Centre in 1978 and Al Shindagha Tunnel in 1975.
