- Percy and his best friend Grover go to Yancy Academy. Percy struggles in school because of his ADHD and his dyslexia little does he know.

Grover brings Percy to Camp Half-Blood as his bodyguard, where he learns that his father is Poseidon. He meets Luke and Annabeth at the camp. Also, Percy son of Poseidon learns his true powers.

- Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and if it is not found by the summer solstices, a war of the gods will start. Zeus accuses Percy of having taken it. Percy and Hades agree that if Percy brings the bolt to him, he will return Percy's mother. Percy enters Hades even though he is missing the bolt in the hopes that Hades will still return his mother to him. Luke gives the gang advice on how to enter and leave the underground and provides them with a shield to keep them safe.

- Now we go to the underworld!
- When the group reaches the underworld, they implore Hades to give Percy's mother back. Because Percy doesn't have the bolt and intends to kill them, Hades says no. The bolt was really placed in Percy's shield by Luke, it turned out. After obtaining the bolt, Hades made plans to rule the world, but they stopped him and returned the bolt to Zeus. Luke, though, appears to challenge Percy for it.

- Not so fast!
- Percy fights Luke and beats him to take the Lightingbolt. Before the summer solstice, Percy returns the bolt to Zeus, saving the world from a gods' war. Back at camp, Percy and his companion start preparing for the next quest.
