The Teotihuacan came to the valley of Mexico in the 500's. In 1325, Tenochtitlan was founded, and an alliance was formed with the Texcoco and Tlacopan to form the Aztex Empire.
Government/Leadership
They believed in many gods making them polytheistic. They believed that the sun and rain gods were most important and needed blood, so they practiced massive human sacrifice.
Achievements
The highest social ranking was the king who was also believed to be a god and was chosen by the gods to rule. Then there were the priests, nobles, and merchants and last was the commoners or slaves.
Decline of Empire
The government was very similar to socialism and had a king that was viewed as a god himself. The priest was also important and would perform the sacrifices to the gods.
Their capital was on an island in the middle of a lake, and they build raised roads called causeways that connected them to the mainland. They also built two great temples for their gods.
In 1502, Montezuma came into power as emperor and weakened the empire by his poor ruling skills. They believed they had bad omen as they were seeing lightning. They also were attacked and conquered by Hernan Cortez and the Spanish.
