- America, you have been invited to The Selection!
- Conflict
- But I want to be with you!
- America, You need to put your name in.
- Rising Action
- At this point in the book, America, got the letter inviting her to put her name into the selection. Her Mother wants her to enter her name but America wants to be with Aspen, her boyfriend at the time. America knew her family needed the money but she still loved Aspen. On top of all that her mother did not know about Aspen because it was illegal.
- Climax
- During the Conflict, Aspen tells America that she needs to put her name in. He says that she needs to do whats best for her family. He also points out that she probably wont get chosen because thousands of girls enter.When America says she won't because she doesn't want to leave Aspen, he breaks up with her, which sets the story in motion.
- Falling Action
- I will be narrowing down to a six girls, The Elite.
- In the rising action, lots of things happen but one of the things that happens is America meets all the girls participating in The Selection. She becomes best friends with Marlee, and enemys with Celeste. She also meets Prince Maxon before anyone else accidentally and almost got kicked out of the palace.
- Resolution
- In the Climax, America and Maxon are on their first official date. America lost a bet to Maxon, if he won the would walk together but if she won she could wear jeans. He lets her wear jeans anyway. This is when America realizes she has feelings for Maxon. That is why this is the turning point of the story.
- In the falling action many things occurred, but one of the most important thing was narrowing it down to The Elite. Right before this a major rebel attack happened and Maxon wanting the girls to be safe so he quickly narrowed it down to The Elite. The Elite is usually ten girls but he narrowed it down to six.
- This book is part of a trilogy so there is no real resolution. The book ended by America trying to figure out what she was going to do next. She knew she used to love Aspen but she was developing feelings for Maxon. That is where we are left until the next book.
