In act 1 scene 1 Ariel has just told Prospero that the king and his men have just jumped from the sinking ship. The ship was sinking from the storm Prospero cast as revenge for him being sent to the island by his brother years ago.

In act 2 scene 1 Gonzalo and Alonso have been put to sleep and while Antonio and Sebastian are watching over them they plot against them. They are plotting to kill both of them and take over the thrown in Naples since it is believed Ferdinand Alonso's son is dead.

In act 3 scene 1 Miranda has just found Ferdinand and told him to take a break from piling all the logs Prospero has ordered him to. She later tells him she wishes to marry him because she is falling in love with him. He agrees and they continue piling the logs happily together.
Work not so hard! I would the lightning had Burnt up those logs that you are enjoined to pile!...
