Hi, I'm Sean! I chose the Health Belief Model as my selected theory. I will be simulating a situation of illness paranoia and how it illustrates the key elements shown below.
Key Elements:Risk (Susceptibility)Consequence (Severity)Benefits (Reduction in risk)Barriers (Obstacles)Cues to Action (Trigger)Confidence (Initiative)
Slide: 2
I'm in my clinical rotation, and I start growing concern about contracting illnesses from the patients. Other students from my cohort are getting sick from their rotations. This demonstrates Susceptibility (Believing I'm at risk)
Slide: 3
My parents could get sick if I get sick. I need to be careful with sanitation when working with patients. Maybe I'll start wearing masks and gloves, regardless of the patient's status.
This is an example of Severity (Believing in consequences), as well as Benefits (Parents protected from disease)
Slide: 4
But I don't want to waste gloves and a mask for a patient that seems fine...
This exemplifies Barriers (Obstacle that prevents taking action)
Slide: 5
As your senior, I want you to know that you should not worry about wasting gloves or masks. Your health is most important! WEAR THEM!
This demonstrates Cues to action (trigger for action, which is approval from the Senior) and Confidence (gained by trigger)
Slide: 6
I'm protecting those around me!
