I should ignore my homework and just go out with friends
I will do some of my homework before I hang out with others
I should do all my homework even though it is not due tomorrow
How Adler Sees Me
As her older brother, you are expected to maintain a high standard as the example
She gets everything earlier than I was allowed it.
How Rogers Sees Me
He said offensive remarks about my mother, but I forgive him. We all have our issues and I know he has had tough times.
In Freud's psychoanalytic perspective, he believes there is an id that acts as a devil on the shoulder, as well as a superego that acts as an angel on the shoulder, It is our ego that makes the final decision, finding the realistic choice. In my example, the monster on the left represents the id, while the angel represents the superego, and the kid in the middle represents the ego, or person making decision.
How Costa and McCrae See Me
Since I am not very extroverted, I have decided to spend my Friday night alone in my bedroom, jumping on the bed
According to Adler, birth order impacts personality. In the example, the older sibling is held to a high standard and high expectations. The older child is also visibly frustrated that the younger child is allowed to do things or gets things at a younger age than he ever did.
How Eysenck Sees Me
My friends invited me out, but I am upset about school. I think I will be better off to stay home and brood.
Rogers says that each person is good unless environment inhibits growth. As part being good, the three parts to it are genuineness, acceptance, and empathy. In the example, the person expresses acceptance and empathy to another individual in spite of the individual clearly having not been a good person (because their environment inhibited growth).
How Bandura Sees Me
This is what it feels like when I am struggling with a test.
Paul Costa and Robert McCrae created a test called the Big 5 test, which helps tell story of personality by determining levels of openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. In this example, I, being the introvert oriented guy I am, elect to spend my weekend night inside because my extroversion score clearly is not very high. At least I chose to do something fun.
In Eysenck's test, people are places on a graph that determines their extroversion vs. introversion levels compared to emotional stability vs. instability levels. In this example, the character is clearly introverted like in the previous example, but he is also somewhat unstable emotionally and is very moody. Hence, he decides to stay home to brood.
Although on a literal stage, it is just a metaphor for the spotlight effect, which says we overestimate how much others notice us. In this example. the teen is comparing being on a stage as the center of attention to the same as flunking a test, where we could feel like others are noticing us being uncomfortable rather than realizing they have their own test to worry about.
