- At the end of the war, there was a ceremony to celebrate true heroes. Chris wanted to reward Jiemba and gave him his medal.
- Look at the color of his skin. How come he fought for the Australian army ?
- But there was another war Western societies still needed to win : the war against racism.
- Shh!! You can't say that! They’ll hear you !!!
- Impossible! I can't let it happen !I'm gonna tell them to stop right now ! This is utterly unacceptable !!!!
- Don't pay attention to them ! I am used to hearing these sorts of comments. They don't hurt me anymore.
- Then the week after that, I will teach you how to play cricket. And I will take you to baseball matches.
- Even if the war was over, Chris and Jiemba still saw each other on a regular basis, and they were closer than ever...
- The didjeridoo comes from the Northern Territory. It is at least 40 000 years old. It is also called the 'yirdaki', We often use beeswax to make the mouthpiece. The rest of it is often made of tree trunks hollowed out by termites. To get a lower sound, the instrument needs to be very long. Some people say that playing it help people who snore... but I personally doubt it!
- Today, we'll learn more about the didjeridoo. And next week, I will teach you how to throw a boomerang.
- There's one more thing I want to show you. It's called dot painting.
- Dot painting is a style that appeared 40 years ago, back in 1971. It was used to partly hide the sacred meanings behind the stories in our paintings, so the real messages could not be understood by Westerners.
- Grandpa, what happened to him in the following years ?
- Well...he became a famous artist accepted and admired by everyone. He lived his life happily and proudly.
- And his true value was finally recognized ! He even gave me one of his dot paintings and I put it up in my living room. It's worth a lot of money but he wanted me to have it...
