  • Finally, the Giver of Life turned his attention to Pierce and the remaining otter. To the otter, he cursed to remain the color of the dirt it came from and barred it from being able to speak.
  • Distraught, Pierce attacked the otters, slaughtering them until only one remained.
  • Without another word, the Giver went and buried the two otters near the water, who’s bodies eventually grew into grand trees that filled the forest.
  • To Pierce, the Giver of Life sent him to the Underworld, deciding that he was no longer fit to be a demigod. Now, Pierce, also known as Night, brought about darkness at the Giver’s command.
  • With all quiet once more, the Giver of Life returned to the clouds to watch over his remaining followers, who went on to protect otters and eventually treat them like companions.
