- Mrs Mallard ran to her room sobbing after hearing the news of her husband's death in an accident.
- But after a torturous sob, she sat there, in shock. Not of her husband's death, but of something coming to her, she didn't know what it was, it was too subtle to find.
- She started to recognize what was approaching to possess her, and she was striving to beat it back. When she abandoned herself, a little-whispered word escaped her slightly parted lips.
- Just outside her bedroom, her sister Josephine is kneeling before the closed door imploring for admission. Louise arose at length and opened the door, She clasped her sister's waist, and together they descended the stairs.
- To everyone's shock, the front door swung open and Mr Mallard was at the door. He was no-where near the accident. He stood amazed at Josephine's cry and Richard's quick motion to screen him from the view of his wife.
- when the doctors came they said Louise dies of heart disease, of jot that kills.
