- This sandwich looks tasty. Now, I wonder what happens to the food we eat. I will see a video on it after eating.
- Ingestion
- The teeth will chew and grind the food
- Mouth contains saliva which softens the food and helps to swallow easily.

- mucus (protects the stomach from damage) and digestive enzymes (pepsin) (digests proteins) which kill the bacteria. The muscles contract to enhance digestion.
- The mouth grinds and crushes the food. The carbohydrates are digested here.
- The stomach releases hydrochloride acid (it kills bacteria and digests food),

- Absorption
- This where the the energy from the food is released into the the bloodstream

- Ingestion is the method of taking in food using the mouth
- Assimilation
- Breaking down of complex food into soluble form is known as digestion. Digestion occurs in our mouth,stomach and the small intestine.
- Egestion
- The energy from the food is released into the blood stream.
- Small intestine
- The small intestine absorbs nutrients from the food.The lining of the small intestine has finger like projections called villi. This makes absorption more efficient and increases surface area
- The blood (with the energy) gets transported to the all the whole body. The blood gives energy to the body to work,function and repair damaged parts.
- Egestion is the removal of unwanted materials.
- Now I understood the methods of digestion.
