  • Rocky's Road Trip
  • By: Samantha Kaser
  • Rocky decided to go on a walk to see what was going on in the world
  • I think I'll take a walk to the mountains today.
  • Hey look, there they are!
  • I think I want to climb to the top.
  • It was getting dark and stormy and Rocky began to wonder if he should be up on the mountain.
  • OH NO, I'm hit!!!
  • It rained so hard, it washed Rocky off the mountain. This weathering and erosion caused him to break down into sediment.
  • Uh oh, I'm breaking up and rolling down the hill.
  • •Naturally occurring material that is broken down by the process of weathering and erosion, and is transported by the action of wind, water, or ice, and/or by the force of gravity acting on the particles. •Can be course, fine, round, angular, or tabular
  • Sediment
  • Rocky was then washed into a stream.
  • Wee! Best water slide ever
  • Soon Rocky was deposited in the ocean.
  • Am I in the ocean? Hope I don't see any sharks!
  • I'm sinking to the bottom.
  • As Rocky sank further down he became compacted and turned into Sedimentary Rock.
  • Hey, buddy, are you ok down there?
  • Oww, I keep getting squished and am sinking deeper and deeper.
  • •These rocks are formed by the depositing of sediment layer by layer and are soft •Don't contain crystal •They contain fossils, rich in coal and petroleum deposit •Examples: Sandstone, Clay, Limestone
  • Sedimentary Rock
  • Before Rocky new it he was melting as he got closer to the center of the earth and turned into Magma.
  • It's is SO hot down here!
  • Two types Pahoehoe: •Can be fast moving •Hot lava •Low viscosity aa: •Slow moving •Cooler lava with a high viscosity
  • Magma
  • Since Rocky was less dense he now started to rise to the surface.
  • Hmm, I seem to be getting my shape back.
  • Going up
  • Good thing I found this warm hat!
  • As Rocky emerged he began to cool and could turn into either Metamorphic or Igneous rock.
  • Wow, What a view! It sure is cold, i'm not used to that after all that heat.
  • •Can be formed from igneous rock, sedimentary rock or other rocks •May have alternate bands of light and dark minerals •RARELY HAS PORES OR OPENINGS •Examples: marble and slate
  • Metamorphic Rock
  • •Is the hardest rock available and they formed by cooling and solidification of the lava •These are hard and compact •They do not form layers •These rocks contains crystals of varying sizes •These rocks do no contain fossils •Examples: granite and basalt
  • Igneous Rock
  • AND THE CYCLE STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN!!
  • I think I'll go for another climb.
  • The End!
