- "You're the guy that killed Bob Sheldon, and he was a friends of ours. We don't like nobody killing our friends," (145)
- "You get back in your car or you'll get split," (145).
- Socs gang around Ponyboy because they are angry that their friend Bob is dead.
- "I mean it, I've had about all I can take from you guys," (145).
- Ponyboy bust off the end of his bottle as a weapon to use against the Socs.
- "You really would have used that bottle, wouldn't you? Steve and me were backing you, but I guess we didn't need to, you really would've cut them huh "(146).
- "I guess so," (146).
- The Socs backed up a little like they were scared.
- "Ponyboy, listen, don't get tough. You're not like the rest of us and don't try to be... what in the world are you doing?" (146).
- "Picking up the glass," (146).
- Ponyboy does not stand down. Ponyboy hops off the car and continues to show the Socs how they will not push him around anymore.
- The Socs get scared and run off.
- Ponyboy shows that his old personality is not completely gone when he picks up the pieces of glass.
