Are your students disengaged? Do you feel that they are distracted by technology?
I don't get this...I don't like science.
I am so tired from gaming all night :(
I haven't checked in five minutes! What if someone unfriended me?!
What if instead of banning technology we use it to engage and excite our students?
These are the questions I asked myself prior to the 2014-2015 school year. How can I take something that students are addicted to (technology) and turn it into something that can be used in the classroom to engage and excite them?
What if students took ownership of their education by using technology to showcase their learning?
What if we taught students how to use technology to further their education and to ignite their curiosity to learn?
The projected use of the iPhone app I created for my senior project.
What if we taught students to use technology to collaborate and to design?
How can I use technology to support and foster the future thinkers and creators of our world?
2022
So I decided to research and implement different teaching strategies using technology as the basis for the unit of study.
First I used YouTube. I created a class account and gave all the students the login. Then, using YouTube video editor, each partner group documented their "parenting" experience in our sex ed class.
Then I had them use Voice Thread to complete an astronomy project. They each chose a planet or constellation and used VoiceThread to collaborate with their partner and to share with the class.
Finally, I used Explain Everything on the iPads to have the students "teach" each other about the physics behind rollercoaster design.
