Storyboard Text

  • Colonialism had a huge impact on the lives of Africans. Economic policies were adopted by Europeans who destroyed the colonies, rather than help them. Africa was damaged economically, politically, and culturally. Africa's traditional lifestyles and culture were destroyed.
  • The policies of colonialism forced the demise of African industry and created a reliance on imported goods from Europe. Had native industry been encouraged and cultivated by the colonizing powers, Africa would probably be in a much better economic and technological position today.
  • The particular way in which health problems were during the colonial era, the structure of the medical services established, and the effects of health care on the health status and size of the rural population have been determined by the economic, social, and political requirements of German and British colonial rulers rather than by the health needs of the African population. The poor healthcare in South Africa is still shown today. The birth rates are much higher than the average country but unfortunately. The current infant mortality rate for South Africa is 23 deaths per 1000 ives.
