Initially, they were being watched by a guard constantly. When the guard was not watching, Lida and her friends decided to sabotage the bombs. Instead of putting gunpowder in the bombs, they placed dirt that looked like gunpowder in them.
One day, the Bomb factory was hit, but Lida and some of her friends escaped. Some of her friends ran away from the area and Lida was forced onto a train with other prisoners. The train was later hit by a bomb, but Lida and some prisoners escaped. They made it to a deserted town where an American Soldier found them. He helped them get food and took them to a refuge camp where Lida was reunited with some of her friends.
