Storyboard Text

  • Hey, why did you throw that unopened granola bar away?
  • I'm full, I won't eat it.
  • Did you know that instead of throwing away unopened packaged food, we could give it back?
  • What do you mean by that?
  • Well, wouldn't you want somebody else to eat that food rather than just letting it rot?
  • That is a good idea, but why is it important?
  • It's important because by giving back we can not only help someone else in need, but also help the environment and economy too.
  • How does the environment and economy play a role in this?
  • On average, a family of four will throw away $1,484 worth of edible food.
  • $1 billion dollars is what the yearly cost of food waste is. The economy loses a lot of money due to food waste.
  • WOW! That is a lot of money!
  • All of this food that others throw away, end up rotting in bins or animals could drag them out of the bins, leaving garbage to spoil all over!
  • Giving Back Program
  • How does the environment play a role in food waste?
  • That is a great idea! The environment and others will benefit from your generous decision!
  • Wow! I didn't know that throwing away food could be dangerous to the environment and animals. How can we prevent food waste?
  • I participate in this program the school provides. It's called "Giving Back." The school usually has an excess amount of packaged foods that they give out,. Others can bring in packaged items to donate as well. The program is intended to help those who don't have much food at home or can't afford groceries. However, anyone can participate in giving back or taking for themselves.
  • It's your turn, how much food waste do you think is found in our country?
  • I did not know the school did that! That is so cool! I am sure I could donate some items from home to help others.
