Storyboard Text

  • Where are you, Akirrius?
  • You, my pretty, are going to Egypt! And I am going to be rich from your sale!
  • Once upon a time, in Ancient Greece, there was a beautiful maiden named Aleksis. Aleksis was of noble birth, but always shared what she had with the poor. She had a friend named Akirrius. Every day they would go to the port of Athens to shop and sell.
  • Oh my dear little sunspot, what is wrong?
  • I cry for Akirrius, who knows nothing of where I am, and is probably so grieved that he has done something dreadful!
  • One day, Akirrius did not arrive to meet her at the market. Sad and confused, Aleksis was walking about searching when she entered the shop of an old woman named Parnassa.
  • Your tale does inspire in me, pity at its best. Here is my advice. Ask the good fares of the Mediterranee to aid you in your separation from your friend. Perhaps they can send him a message.
  • While browsing Parnassa's, she was kidnapped by a foreign man! She was put on a boat and taken to Egypt, where she was bought by a kind woman named Mali. She was given a new toga and called Kindressa.
  • Oh, fairies of the Mediterranee, please help bring Akirrius here to me!
  • When she walked along the beach, the memory was too much- she burst out crying. It was very lucky that she had a kind mistress, who would not punish her for crying. Aleksis was inconsolable for a few days, but eventually she regained her composure.
  • One day, Kindressa heard that the queen of Egypt, Queen Miy, was going to be poisoned. She was able to save the queen by exposing the poisoners. The Queen then asked Kindressa what she would have in return. Kindressa asked for advice, because she loved Mali and did not want to leave her.
  • So she took the queen's advice and put a small coin, her only coin, a lowly decatur, into a fish's mouth and set the fish free. And the Mediterranee heard.
