Storyboard Text
- I introduced the issue of why a mental illness may persist at the beginning of my first panel. This gives the story context for the audience and enables character growth as the main character experiences his range of emotions, going through his journey.The panel shows Damien, getting kicked out of his basketball team and being verbally abused by coaches and staff which is very common in this world. It is proven that such abuse almost always leads to the downfall of a player both mentally and physically by Pursuit. It leads to a high level of decrease in their social and emotional development over time.
- Nooo! Please this is my only option.
- Never come into my gym ever again, you worthless rat. Get off my team!!!
- In my second panel, Damien's friend Rocky, starts a conversation with him as he feels something is off. This will benefit the character as it opens an opportunity for him to speak freely about his troubles. Additionally, I opted to add plenty of validation from Rocky towards Damien as this is a proven way of allowing him to feel more cared for according to healthline. Near the end of Rocky's speech bubble, Rocky tells an anecdote which gives Damien further verification in his problems, allowing for him to feel as if his problem and coach are nugatory.
- I just got kicked off my team. My dreams are ruined
- Hey, don't worry bro, I'm always going to be here for you. You could always try next year. Don't let him get to your head, just focus on yourself. It happens to everyone, nothing new. I remember that one time two years ago when it happened to me. It was hard getting over it at first, but after some time, you realize that its his loss and not yours's.
- Hey, I've noticed you haven't been yourself. Is there anything you want to talk about?
- In my third panel, Damien is getting on his bus to leave school and Rocky comes up to him to ask if he is 'feeling any better'. I made this the first line of my third panel as this gives Damien further opportunity to get anything else off his chest which helps him feel free to talk. However, after Damien responds with contradiction and avoidance, a symptom of depression, Rocky asks himself about his new behaviour even after they tried to sort things out over the phone. This propels a new problem, that suggests something deeper than just being sad and angry.
- Yeah, I guess, I'll just catch up with you later, I should go now.
- Hey, are you feeling any better?
- Why did he say that, he said he was okay. Somethings off, why doesn't he want to hangout with me?
