- Venus is the second planet from the Sun and one of the brightest in the sky. It is similar in size to Earth but has a very harsh environment.Venus is extremely hot (about 465°C) due to a strong greenhouse effect from its carbon dioxide atmosphere. It also has toxic sulfuric acid clouds and very high pressure.A day on Venus is longer than a year, and it spins backwards, causing the Sun to rise in the west.
