  • 2 types of agriculture- subsistence and commercial.The type of agriculture that is practiced for the domestic consumption of the farmers is called subsistence agriculture.Subsistence agriculture can be classified into 2 types- primitive subsistence agriculture which includes shifting agriculture and nomadic herding and intensive subsistence agriculture.
  • Shifting cultivation- It is a primitive method of farming practiced by tribals.Nomadic Herding- It is practiced by nomadic people who graze their animals on natural pastures.Intensive subsistence agriculture- It is practiced in densely populated regions of the world.Commercial Agriculture- Agriculture done with the aim of selling the product and earning profit is called commercial agriculture.Extensive agriculture- It is common in regions where there is abundant land but very sparse population.
  • Plantation agriculture- This type of agriculture is most practiced in the tropical and sub-tropical regions.Mixed farming- In this type of agriculture, crop cultivation and animal rearing are practiced on the same farm.Pastoral farming- It is the commercial rearing of livestock like cattle, sheep and goats for meat, milk, wool, hides, and various other products.Dairy farming- It is the rearing of dairy cattle to produce milk and milk products.
  • Orchard farming- This type of farming has developed in the Mediterranean region.Market gardening and horticulture- This type of agriculture includes the cultivation of vegetables, fruits and flowers solely for the urban markets.
