- Bruno and his friends are roleplaying as fighter planes with their arms out in Berlin. In the background, you can see children and women being kidnapped by German soldiers, expressing the fact that this is during WWII. Bruno's family are rich, partially because Bruno's father, Ralf, is a high ranked German soldier.
- Climax
- In this scene Ralf gets a promotion, and has to leave Berlin. Ralf wants his family to go with him, so they all move to Poland together. When they get there, Bruno looks out his new window and sees Auschwitz concentration camp over the forest and thinks its a farm. He goes to explore, he meets a young boy on the other side of some barbed wire. The kids name is Shmuel.
- Falling action
- Little does he know, Shmuel is a Jewish prisoner. Bruno and his sister Gretel eventually learn about the war and how their country are killing millions of Jews in the concentration camps. Bruno feels bad for Shmuel and tries to help him while Gretel throws away all her dolls and covers her room wall with posters of Hitler. They smell a horrid smell of burning bodies from the back of Auschwitz. The mother, Elsa, is disgusted knowing that her husband is a part of all this.
- Resolution
- Shmuel becomes a slave for Bruno's family. Bruno offers Shmuel some food, and then one of the families soldier guards comes in and sees Shmuel eating. When they are confronted, Bruno claims that Shmuel was stealing. After all, Bruno cant be caught helping a Jew by a German guard! Bruno feels extremely bad, and goes to help Shmuel look for his dad. This means Bruno has to blend in with the Jews. Unfortunate, because at the same time, they were being led into...
- Bruno, Shmuel and hundreds of innocent Jews were forced into a small room. Meanwhile, Bruno's parents realize Bruno has gone missing. They put two and two together, and realize where Bruno has gone. Everyone starts paniking. In the small room, They have to take their clothes off. Everyone thinks its just a shower, until everything goes black. They all panic as a German guard pours chemicals into the room, killing everyone. Bruno and Shmuel were killed in one of Auschwitz's gas chambers.
- Ralf tries to stop the gassing from happening but by then, its too late. Bruno's mother realizes her son just died, and bursts into tears. Ralf finally notices what he is doing is wrong. As the frame of an empty prison room with a bunch of dirty uniforms zooms out, no one lives happily ever after.
