- I decided to move onto the 8th floor so that I don't have to walk up many flights of stairs, and I'm on the same floor as the pool.
- I put my apartment on the 8th floor because the movie theater is only 2 floors above me, making it +2. The arcade is 3 floors below me, so its at -3. The basketball court is 10 floors above me, making it +10. The pool is on the same floor as me, so its at 0. Lastly, the lobby is 8 floors below me, making it -8.
- Since I moved in on the 8th floor, I need to go down 8 floors to get to the lobby. If my apartment is considered zero, that would be 0+ (-8) = -8. This means that the lobby is 8 floors beneath me.
- I was looking for you and walked down 2 floors from your apartment, and then up 6 floors. I walked a total of 8 floors. |-2| + |6| which makes 2+6=8.
- You should have called me! I was on the roof, meaning you needed to walk 12 floors from my apartment. 0+ 12= 12 floors.
- Today, I'm going to go play basketball at the basketball court and then I'm going to go to the movie theater. From my apartment, I will have to go up 10 floors to get to the basketball court, and then down 8 floors to get to the movie theater. I will be at +10 +(-8) = +2. My final location will be 2 floors above my apartment.
- Do you want to meet at the arcade today?
- Sure! First, I just have to go to the lobby to pick up a package, so I have to go down 8 floors. Then, I will go up 5 floors to meet you at the arcade. So I will go -8 + 5 = -3. I will end up 3 floors below my apartment.
