Romuls founds and rules Rome
Romulus and Remus were twin brothers. Their father was the God of War, their mother the daughter of the King of an ancient city in Italy.
The uncle killed the father and took over the throne. He killed all the male heirs, but a servant took pity on the babies and put them in a basket in the river.
The boys were rescued by a wolf. They grew up and were found by a shepherd, who took looked after them until they were grown up.
One day the boys discovered who they were and killed the uncle. They decided to build a city of their own, but could not agree where to build it. They consulted an augury to settle their disagreement, but even this didn't help them find an agreement.
One day Remus made fun of Romulus and how he was building wall around the city. Romulus was so angry that he killed Remus. He named the city Roma after himself.
The legend says that Romulus became the first King of Rome in 753 BC and populated his new city with runaway slaves and stolen women from the Sabine tribe. The tribe wanted to stop this and had a war, but later they reached an agreement the tribe became part of Rome under the Kingship of Romulus. The legend ends by telling how Romulus was carried up the heavens by his father, Mars, and was worshiped as God.
