- Boxer is getting old and his split hoof hurts him. He reluctantly admits this to his farm animal friends, Clover and Benjamin
- My hoof is killing me.
- Despite his old age and injured hoof, Boxer continues to move huge heavy boulders to the building site.
- I must work harder to finally finish rebuilding the windmill.
- One day, Boxer falls down and can't get up. The rest of the animals try to help.
- oh no Boxer, are you okay?
- Oh no, call for help!
- A few days later when it becomes clear that Boxer is not going to recover, the pigs arrange to have Boxer taken away. Panic breaks out when the other animals read the sign on the cart.
- Alfred Simmons, Horse Slaughterer and Glue Boiler, Willingdon
- Stop! Boxer, they are taking you to your death!
- What?! I thought I was going to the hospital. Oh no!
- Three days later, Squealer announces to the farm animals that Boxer has died in the hospital. He also denies the awful rumor that Boxer was sent to the slaughterhouse.
- I'm so relieved to hear that. Baaa, Baa, four legs good, two legs bad.
- ....Now about that ridiculous rumor that our beloved Boxer was taken to the slaughterhouse:  the van of the surgeon was newly acquired from the slaughterer and the sign had simply not been repainted yet. Who could anyway believe such a stupid rumor?
- On the same day as Boxer's memorial banquet, a crate of whiskey is delivered from Willingdon. Later, the pigs are heard loudly partying. None of the animals could understand how the pigs could afford such an expensive delivery...
