- "Welcome to Smog City! I'm Mayor Smith, and we need your help. Recently, the pollution has been very bad here and we don't know how to fix it. Many of our residents are falling ill, and we needed an emergency medical response. Thank you so much for your help!"
- "On our way to the hospital, feel free to look around the town. To the right, we have one of our three factories. Actually, the factory workers and construction workers have been a large segment of the population getting sick. I'm sure you will meet many today at the hospital."
- "This is one of our residents who works at a construction site. Recently, he has had a lot of problems breathing. Our doctors here found that he had small fragments of dust and other particles in his lungs and bloodstream."
- "Here in the children's wing, we have one of our citizens with high levels of nitrogen oxide in her system. She had a lung infection, and is recovering, but it is still unsafe for her to go outside."
- Many of our older citizens have also been heavily effected by this pollution. Here is one of them, already suffering from emphysema before his hospitalization. He was brought in when ozone levels peaked, worsening his emphysema.
- "Thank you for your help, Doctor Air. I hope you can help us treat our patients and figure out some solutions for our problems here in smog city. Mayor Smith, I hope to see you again soon! I must get back"
- POSSIBLECAUSES OFTHE ILLNESS
- I have just gotten the most interesting email from a Smog City resident. There seems to have been a change at our local gas stations. Let me look at the email again.
- "Off to the gas station I go!"
- TO: Mayor SmithFROM: A Confused CitizenSUBJECT: Our Gas StationsDear Mayor Smith,Something is different about our gas stations, but I cannot quite put my finger on it. I know you are very dedicated, I believe you should come and see what is happening, and try to figure out the problemThank you,A Smog City resident
- "There is something different at the gas station! What is it? Oh my, I think it's the nozzle. It seems to be shaped different. It seems to be shaped different on all the pumps. Look, there's a note!
- The change you find on these pumps is the addition of a vapor recovery nozzle. These nozzles will make sure no gasoline vapors escape when your residents fill up their tanks. Ozone will be heavily removed from your air. By preventing the chamber's vapors from escaping into the air, and instead moving them into the storage tank, your city will be helped. These nozzles will save your air from ozone and volatile organic compound making your sky blue again. Additionally, it will protect people from additional lung harm.
- But who could it be from??
- There's something different about my cars. A new doohickey attached to them. Can you come by and help me figure out what is happening?
- No more oxygen deprivation, lung diseases, and super high ozone levels now! In every car in town I have installed a catalytic convertor, something that protects from more harmful pollutants. In the catalytic convertors, high temperature chemical reactions make the harmful pollutants Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Oxides, and hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide, something that will make your residents a lot less sick. I hope the hospital has some free beds soon!
