Victor runs away as soon as he can after he sees his creation rise.
I had hardly placed my foot within the door before the children shrieked, and one of the women fainted. The whole village was roused; some fled, some attacked me, until, grievously bruised by stones and many other kinds of missile weapons, I escaped to the open country and fearfully took refuge in a low hovel, quite bare, and making a wretch ed appearance after the palaces I had beheld in the village (p.123).
Victor tries to go back to living his normal life and prepare for his wedding.

The monster ends up finding a village and curiosity leads him to enter, unfortunately the village's inhabitants are not as welcoming.

There is where the monster spends his days learning how to speak, and learning about the world he lives in, through a crack in the cabin.
