  • Hey Gunter! What's up man?
  • Nothing much Johnny. Where you coming from?
  • I'm coming from work. I was working on a new project outside Portland for a condo building.
  • Alright. You wanna go have some coffee at Monet's?
  • Hey you heard of how much humans burn fossil fuels? It's actually insane!
  • Monet's
  • I KNOW! IT'S OUTRAGEOUS
  • Let's take a trip to the Volkswagen factory. I'll show you how screwed up our climate is
  • Okay, let's do it!
  • OMG
  • Do you see how much carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere because of industrial uses?!
  • So why is this happening, Johnny?
  • Well Gunter, these are the affects of humans damaging the environment. (Anthropogenic). No natural act is involved. We humans are damaging our precious Earth!
  • Carbon dioxide is a major greenhouse gas. When it's released in the air, it warms up the atmosphere. This causes rise in sea levels, melting glaciers and ice sheets.
  • Holy moly! So Johnny, polar bears are actually dying because they are losing their natural environment as a result of global warming?!
  • Indeed, Gunter. It's an utter nightmare...
  • Wow. Agreed. Hey you wanna go to the lake to talk some more?
  • Johnny, see this lake? Because of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the water in this lake is absorbing the CO2 and thus making the lake more acidic
  • Woah! So the fish and aquatic animals will die because of this?
  • Also you should know that when sulfur oxide is released into the atmosphere, there is acid rain. Therefore, the lakes and oceans are dropping their pH level, making it more acidic which also kills these aquatic animals. It's terrible!
  • Agreed. We need to take action!
  • Speaking of taking action, Starting in 2019, the government will introduce a carbon tax for Ontario. You will pay 20 dollars per ton of greenhouse gas emission and by 2022 this will be 50 dollars. The average person emits 19.5 tons/year.
  • Huh??
  • This means that the average person would be taxed an additional 400 dollars in 2019 and almost a thousand dollars in 2022. When I do the math, 19.5 * 20 dollars means that it will cost you almost 400 dollars in tax next year and by 2022, almost 100 dollars. You’ll be taxed on everything from gas from your car, to heating your home and air travel.
  • Wow. Well, I guess I'm selling my $20 million private jet!
  • Good idea! Go green!
