In science there are multiple ways in which matter can change. The two main ways are through Physical Changes and Chemical Changes
Physical Changes
Physical Changes can be described as a change in which the matter in the object changes in shape or form (solid, liquid, gas) but it doesn't change chemically
Physical Changes
Chemical Changes can be described as a change in which the matter in the object goes through a chemical reaction and forms new substances
Chemical Changes
In physical changes, the physical properties stay the same, its volume, color, and molecular weight are a few examples. The reason why ice melting is a physical change is because the form of the matter changes from a solid to a liquid. And with this the chemical equation doesn't change there for it can not be a chemical change
Chemical Change
Chemical Change
In chemical changes, an objects chemical equation is shifted in some way. After a chemical reaction occurs, new products are created. The reason why burning wood is a chemical change is because it goes from being wood to being ash, this is an irreversible chemical change
