LATER THAT AFTERNOON...
Hello Mr. Jones. I am Dr. Breathe Right. I am going to explain the tests you will be taking today.
A chest x-ray will help us to determine how your lungs look. It will also give us a baseline for comparison later on.
We will perform a test called an ABG to assess the levels of pH, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and bicarbonate in your blood
Spirometry will assess how your lungs function by recording the amount of air that moves into and out of your lungs.
After we perform the tests, you will return to your doctor to go over the results.
Okay. That sounds good.
Back at the doctor's office...
Hello Mr. Jones. Thank you for coming back. I am going to go over your test results and make some recommendations.
The chest x-ray appeared normal.
That's good, right?
Yes, it is. The blood test shows a slight increase of carbon dioxide in your blood and the pH is slightly decreased.
Also, the lung function test showed a mild decrease of your lung function. Based on these findings, your diagnosis is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
What does that mean?
I have a video that will explain (COPD), afterwards I will answer any questions you have
