  • Sigmund Freud focused the development of personality from the perspective of the different levels of consciousness. He identified three personality structures--the id, ego, and superego. The Id is the "devil" on your shoulder, urging your desire for immediate gratification in self-serving manner. The Superego is the "angel" on your shoulder or the voice of reason and morality. The Ego is the conscious controller of personality as it balances desires with reality.

Archetypes are symbolic images that are universally known, such as a hero being someone who shows courage and bravery. Synchronicity is the idea that every event has meaning, or there is no such thing as a coincidence.
  • Albert Bandura's work focused on the Self which is the core of our personality.
