Jacquees injected silent undetectable malware that remained unidentified for a long time. It operated by just sitting in the network silently recording credit card numbers and then once recorded, it was sent back to the home server in Jacquees' residence. Jacquees was able to interact with the underlying operating system. He alongside some accomplices identified the target on a Fortune 500 company list with their payment processing system. By uncovering these vulnerabilities, he stole 4.2million debit and credit card numbers.
They tested their malware against 20 different antivirus programs to make sure they wouldn't be detected, and also programmed the malware to erase evidence from the hacked networks to avoid forensic detection. The initial breach was confined to the corporate network. However, eventually Jacquees got access to the card processing network which was separate. In the end, they had caused a data theft of 130 million credit and debit cards and a loss of $130 million. Jacquees was eventually caught as the authorities caught onto the point of sale location and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
