Dido is born in the 800BCs in modern day Lebanon to the King of Tyre. (Her exact birthdate is unknown) Her father made Dido nd her brother Pygmalion joint heirs.

She was so celebrates that even King Larbas asked for her hand in marriage. Since Dido was still in love with her first husband, she refused him. The king then threatens to make war on Carthage if she refused.
Dido's Legacy Part 1
There are many versions of the story, but the most realistic one mentions that Dido, still in love with her first husband, decided to kill herself with a sword as suicide so that she doesn't have to marry.

In another version, it mentions that Dido is in love with Aeneas, but was heartbroken because Aeneas had betrayed her. Since Aeneas leads the trojans, this is the reason that starts the famous Punic wars.

Dido is worshiped in Carthage as a legendary heroine. Tunisian women are also called the daughters of Dido because Dido founded it and Dido's image is even featured in its currency.
Dido's story had been rewritten by many famous authors such as Ovid and Chaucer. There's also many plays written about her such as Dido and Aeneas and Dido of Carthage.
Since Dido lived such a long time ago, no one really knows the accurate date, but it was estimated that she lived around the 800 BCs.
