I have called this meeting to discuss financial issues
Time after time, the Third estate is the one that pays the most taxes. Why must we be treated in such manner?
THE TENNIS COURT OATH
Let's begin brainstorming ideas for the constitution here.
THE STORMING OF THE BASTILLE
WE DEMAND WEAPONS AND GUNPOWDER!!!
NO!
King Louis chose Jaques Necker to look over the finance and he pushed for tax reforms. However, the King's advisors were not for this idea. Due to the indecisiveness, the King called a meeting of the Estates-General to discuss the financial crisis that was putting France into debt. The Third Estate had less power seeing as they were the only ones who paid taxes to the King and other Estates. Representatives of the three estates came together for the first time in 175 years. During this, the Third Estate broke off declaring themselves the National Assembly because they realized they couldn't get a fair representation.
THE MARCH OF VERSAILLES
GIVE US BREAD! GIVE US BREAD!
In order to continue the debate, France's National Assembly was obliged to move to a neighboring tennis court. They were afraid that the King would remove them. In the now-famous Tennis Court Oath, they would promise to preserve France from disaster. The Assembly would eventually finish the 1791 Constitution. A restricted monarchy was established, as well as a new parliamentary assembly.
THE REIGN OF TERROR
On July 14, 1789, a mass of Parisians gathered outside the Bastille demanding gunpowder and weapons. Over 800 Parisians wished to protect themselves against the monarch and his subjects. However, the Bastille commander opened fire on them. For their views, Parisians were willing to stand up to the King. The French Revolution is symbolized by this act.
THE RISE OF NAPOLEON
I will restore order in France and let the country prosper!
A crowd of furious women marched from Paris to the Versailles Palace on October 5th of the year 1789. They demanded bread and a meeting with their King. They were enraged with the King, as well as his wife, Queen Marie Antoinette. The women requested that their King and his family promised to come to Paris so that they might visit him anytime they pleased, for whatever reason. For the following three years, the royal family was held captive by the revolutionaries.
LET US SPEAK TO THE KING!
The Reign of Terror was made possible by Maximilien Robespierre. People feared what would happen if they spoke against the republic. No one was safe from the Guillotine, which beheaded nobility, clergy, middle-class people, and peasants. This treason would even behead France's King and Queen. The Reign of Terror would persist until the fall of Robespierre. During the French Revolution, the Guillotine became a symbol of terror. On July 27th, 1794, Robespierre was arrested and executed the following day.
AHHHH PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!
Napoleon Bonaparte was sent to the military to be trained when he was nine. He was a political figure who assisted in the overthrow of the Directory and the establishment of the Consulate, the country's governing body. This implies that he had many military successes, basically reforming the revolution. Napoleon ascended to the position of Emperor of France two years later. During Napoleon's rule, he instituted a number of changes, including price controls and stimulating the construction of canals and railroads in order to return France to its best condition. Furthermore, he ensured that future military officers were properly prepared and educated by establishing public schools under rigorous government control.
