Living near the swamp was bad because, mosquitoes brought in lots of disease, killing of many of the colonists. At the same time, the water had become brackish, which is undrinkable.
Jamestown did not fail in the end
The one reason the colonists came to Jamestown was to get rich off gold and silver, but there was one problem, there was no silver and gold. Without money, colonists weren't able to buy supplies to live through the winter, so many colonists died. when winter ended there was a resupply of people only to find what one of them had will save the colony.
According to the article,"Life in Jamestown, Virginia," one of the colonists in the resupply had smuggled in Tobacco seeds. The colonists then planted the seeds and grew huge tobacco farms, and payed for supplies to flourish the town.
In conclusion, many of the colonists died in Jamestown but those who didn't, and did get rich must have been yelling, "Hooray!" or "We survived the winter and became rich.
