Storyboard Text

  • I'm glad you decided to let me take you to get your shoulder checked dear.
  • Me too. I just hope it's nothing serious that will keep me from working.
  • Good afternoon. If I could have your insurance card and drivers license I will get you checked in.
  • My name is Nurse Jane and I'm gonna be taking care of you this afternoon. What brings you in today?
  • I fell at work two days ago. I now have pain in my left shoulder and scapula.
  • I can't use my arm and it makes me anxious that something is really wrong. I also haven't been able to work due to not being able to use it.
  • Has this caused any issues in your daily life? Does anything make the pain worse?
  • Let's take some x-rays to make sure there isn't a fracture or a break somewhere. Just to be on the safe side.
  • Yes please. that would be great. Can I also get something for the pain please?
  • We are going to head into the second room here and to take some scans. Once we complete the scans I will get you something to help with the pain.
  • I really appreciate it. I just hope it's nothing serious.
  • X-RAY
  • I'm not seeing anything broken or fractured which is great. When you fell it may have pulled the muscles the wrong way and that is whats causing the pain and immobility.
  • I feel so much better knowing there's nothing seriously wrong. Thank you for making sure.
  • I'm going to send you home with some range of motion exercises to do on your own as well as an order for physical therapy. The doctor is also prescribing a muscle relaxer for you to take at night to help loosen everything up. Let's walk through your ROM exercises before you leave.
  • Would you like me to step out while you do them dear?
  • No, I think you should stay in case I need someone to help me at home.
  • Those don't look to bad. I'm sure I will be able to help you no problem.
  • Thank you for everything today. I really appreciate you being so nice and understanding why I was so anxious.
  • I think that handles everything. I'll make sure to start therapy, do my ROM exercises at home, and only take the medicine when I really feel I need it.
  • Make sure you take it easy over the next few days. Also only take the muscle relaxer when you absolutely need it. Anything else I can help you guys with today?
  • Thank you very much. Hopefully we won't be back in anytime soon.
  • Here is your discharge papers, the request for physical therapy, and also a note for work. If anything else happens or you don't start to feel better within two weeks please come back.
  • For your last movement you are going to abduct your arm away from your body and then adduct back into you body. Try to do each motion 3 times to start and slowly start to add more as the pain lessens. If it hurts or feels like something else is wrong please stop and come back in to see us.
