How Adler Sees Me:
I'm the oldest!
How Horney Sees Me:
I just needed to get away from everyone...
Freud believed that personality was developed based on three psychological structures: the id, ego, and superego. These different ideas would make up your personality. The id can be thought of as a devil on your shoulder, showing your true inner desires and wants. The superego is thought of as an angel guiding you to be forgiving of others and see the best in people. Your personality is a unique combination of these three, with ego being the balance between the two extremes.
How Jung Sees Me:
Isn't it fascinating how deep down we are all so similar - we all think and feel the same thoughts and emotions... wow.
Adler believed that birth order played a role in developing personality. As the first born and oldest in my family, I would inherit certain characteristics to fight any feelings of inferiority. Some of these characteristics include being a perfectionist and liking organization. The order of birth affects this, and each child fights inferiority by compensating or developing traits of their personality. It is different for the middle and youngest children in the family.
How Costa + McCrae See Me:
I love that you are so trusting and easy going!
I love how you are so outgoing and positive!
Horney believed that we feel most helpless, anxious, and lost when we do not feel like we are getting enough love. There are different ways that someone copes with these social interactions and Horney believed that that is because of personality. Either you withdraw from others, become more aggressive, or seek comfort and support from people. It can also vary situation to situation.
How Bandura Sees Me:
Jung believed in a phenomenon called the collective unconscious, which means that being human, we all feel the same kind of emotions and we all think similar thoughts. It is inherited, deep in our unconscious and it makes us who we are.
Costa and McCrae believed that five main traits made up someone's individual personality. These characteristics are being open, conscientious, extraverted, agreeable, and neurotic. Depending on how much of each trait was displayed in your behavior, that would help determine your personality. Some are more prevalent than others in certain people e.g. if someone is very outgoing, they are very extraverted.
BEST FRIENDS
Bandura came up with the Spotlight Effect, which is when you assume and believe that everyone is focusing on you. Due to this, some people can become easily anxious because they feel that their insecurities are apparent and very obvious to others. In reality, most people do not notice because everyone is focusing about themselves.
Oh my gosh, I feel like everyone is looking at me right now.
