  • The French and Indian War 1754-1763
  • The Proclamation of 1763
  • Taxes, Taxes, Taxes!
  • The French and Native Americans fought the British and colonists for land in the Ohio Valley. They were too crowded in the colonies and needed more land to live on. The British defeated the French and Indians and France gave up most of their land.
  • Boston MassacreMarch 5, 1770
  • The French were forced to stay behind the "proclamation line" by King George. He did this because he wanted to keep an eye on them and he did not want them to start another war with the Native Americans.
  • Boston Tea PartyDecember 16,1773
  • King George was in debt because of the war, so he started taxing the colonists on many things they needed like tea, newspapers, legal documents, and sugar. The colonists did not like it because they had no one in England to tell how they felt!
  • The Intolerable Acts1774
  • After the Townshend Acts were passed, the colonists opposed them through boycotts and protests. Due to this anger, British troops were brought to Boston to help. The colonists did not like the soldiers so they would call them names and throw things at them. The Boston Massacre was an unplanned fight between the British soldiers and the colonists. Five colonists died.
  • In late November and early December of 1773, 3 ships arrived in Boston harbor. The colonists had to pay taxes when the ships were unloaded. But the colonists did not want to pay the taxes so 120 people disguised themselves as Indians. They threw crates of tea into the water. Out of all 120 people disguised, only 1 was caught and arrested.
  • The British government passed the Intolerable Acts to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party, and they wanted to keep the colonists from acting out again. British soldiers could live in the colonists' homes and eat their food and the British ships blocked off the harbor which prevented trade!
  • Boston harbor closed!
