Storyboard Text

  • The Louisiana Purchase: Livingston and Monroe-1803
  • The US wants to buy New Orleans for $10 million so we can have access to the Mississippi!
  • Bonaparte doesn't even want the Louisiana Colony Anymore because of other issues, so maybe I should offer the Louisiana Colony for $15 million!
  • The Trail of Tears- 1836
  • We have lost to many people! The Cherokee should have never signed the removal Treaty!
  • Even though we won the trail against Georgia, the US government just forces us out of our homeland!
  • If we had never signed the treaty, we would have lost even more Cherokee! This land may not be great, but we must try to farm and hunt like before.
  • The Battle of San Jacinto- April, 1836
  • Remember the Alamo!!! Take that Santa Anna!
  • We have surprised you and killed half your men. Give up!
  • This is for Texan Independence!
  • You Texans! I though I beat you at the Alamo in 1836!
  • From the perspective of the US, they now controlled the Mississippi River, so now the US could trade more efficiently between themselves because they had the river and this caused a huge, positive economic impact. However, from the perspective of Native Tribes, they did not know about this 15 million dollar purchase of the Louisiana Purchase, so later conflict will arise between the US and these tribes.
  • The Mexican War: The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo- 1848
  • I do agree to the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the Mexican Government recognizes Texas as an Independent State. Also our territory around the Pacific is the US's.
  • Do you agree to the Treaty?
  • From the perspective of the Cherokee, The Trail of Tears caused many Cherokee deaths, and when they settled on the reserved land, they found it was not good for farming and hunting causing this tribe to go into poverty from lack of food. From the Perspective of the US, settlers could now take the valuable land that the Cherokee had and use it for farming.
  • The Oregon Territory: US settlers and expanding the 49th parallel- 1846
  • Great Britain has signed the Treaty! We now have finished manifest Destiney! The 49th parallel has been lengthened!
  • From the Perspective of the Texans, they had won their independence so Texans could now start to discuss whether or not they should join the US and they could now live and farm in peace. However, from the perspective of Mexico, they had lost many soldiers and they were now not in the position to attack other countries or re-take Texas.
  • American Indians and Westward Expansion: The Wounded Knee Massacre- 1890
  • Our Ghost Dance clothes will protect us from you guns!
  • We heard Gunfire, Attack! the Indians!
  • From the perspective of the US, this treaty completed this "Manifest Destiney" idea, or that the US should have the territory from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean and now many white settlers could have the opportunity to settle inland from Texas to California. Also, families from Mexico that were living in the territory now owned by the US were now US citizens, and they would have to practice US ways.
  • Signed 1848 by the Mexican and US government so that the US could complete Manifest Destiney
  • President Polk had pitched the idea to Great Britain that they should expand the 49th parallel, and when they did, many white settlers and their families flooded the Oregon Country, and with it came conflicts between Native Tribes already in the Oregon Country. The US tried to get many Native Tribes to sign Treaties with the US, and some did but white settlers had already taken the reserved land, and conflict between these groups grew and many tribes entered a state of poverty.
  • Horary! We can now finish the railroad!
  • After the shooting of countless Native Americans, many tribes were subdued or forcibly assimilated by the US and because of this, many tribes entered a state of poverty either because they did not have land or because their land was not great for farming. From the perspective of the US, this massacre marked the end of the Indian wars and many white settlers could now move into the valuable land once owned by Native Tribes.
