  • This image shows Lynn saving Katie from a dog that they encountered in the cornfield. Not only does she help save Katie, but she also ends up helping the dog. This demonstrates just how thoughtful and caring she is. She’s also brave, protective, and loving of her sister.
  • "'Maybe you girls should keep your uncle company while he drives."'
  • "'Oh, no, I wouldn't want to deprive you of their delightful company."'
  • In this picture, Lynn is explaining to Katie how she might experience racism at school. Katie is not yet understanding of the concept that people might not like her. This demonstrates her innocent view of the world, and her strong connection to her sister. In addition to this, Katie is also kind and thoughtful.
  • In this image, Uncle Katsuhisa is spitting after loosing three games of chess with Lynn. This demonstrates how loud, obnoxious, and moody the uncle is. This shows that the mother enjoys having peace and quiet along with time away from her kids. She is gentle, delicate, strict, and comanding.
  • In this picture, Katie's father is reassuring her mother about his brothers capability. He is confident that his brothers truck will make it all the way to Georgia because he trusts him. This demonstrates how loyal and comforting the father is. He is also thoughtful, caring, and considerate.
