  • The Journey of PerseusAs Explained by Will Rigney
  • Danae was a beautiful woman who had a son with Zeus. Her father, the King, hid her and her baby Perseus in an underground room because there was an oracle that foreshadowed his death at the hand of Perseus. The King did not want to kill the baby so he resorted to hiding them underground.
  • One day the King decided to expel Danae and Perseus out into the ocean in a bronze box. They floated aimlessly across the ocean for a long time until washing ashore.
  • They washed ashore a fisherman's house. His name was Dictys and he lived with his wife. Dictys taught Perseus how to fish and become a true Greek man. They lived happily here until Dictys' brother found out about Danae's existance.
  • Dictys' brother was King Polydectes. He wanted to marry Danae but did not want kids so he tried to send Perseus away on a quest to die. He asked Perseus to fetch him Medusa's head as a wedding present.
  • Perseus set off on his journey first to the land of oaks. All the magical trees said was that the gods were protecting him. Perseus needed to know where the nymphs where so that they could bring him to Medusa's island, so he kept journeying on.
