  • Wow, that's the coolest rock I have ever seen!
  • I wonder what it is?
  • It has all these cool layers!
  • Hmmmm.... I am going to search different types of rocks.
  • The three rock types are: Igneous rock, Sedimentary rock, and Metamorphic rock.
  • WHAT! There are three different types of rocks? I thought there was only one type of rock!
  • I wonder what would happen if I buried a sedimentary rock in the very, very hot desert for 200,000 years?
  • A Sedimentary rock is the type of rock that I found in the backyard. It is made when it two rocks are compacting and cementing into each other to make layers.
  • Sedimentary rocks are normally found near water where there is a lot of erosion.
  • I just unburied a rock that had been left in the hot desert earth for 200,000 years. I think the pressure of the sand and the extreme heat turned it into a metamorphic rock! I wonder what would happen if I threw this same rock into a volcano during my trip to Hawaii?
  • A metamorphic rock is made by heat and pressure to a rock and can normally be found in high range places because there is more pressure.
  • Aloha from Hawaii! I am at the top of the volcano and am throwing my metamorphic rock in to see if the magma transforms it into an igneous rock. It has been such a long wait! But yay, success!
  • But a Igneous rock is formed when magma cools. These rocks are normally found in places that have had volcanic activity.
