  • In the Broadway Melody, the scene with the femme fatale (Cyd Charisse) in the dream ballet, the long shot creates emphasis on the femme fatale and her outfit. This long shot also helps show the choreography and movements of the two actors. This, along side with her cape, it creates a big depth, which gives it a more airy and spacey feel to it.
  • At the finale of Broadway Melody, there's a medium shot of Don Lockwood, behind the background of the setting and supporting dancers. The directors did this to emphasize Don, as he is the lead singer of the musical number, but also to obviously show Broadway in the background, so that the audience can make the connection between the two.
  • In the beginning of the movie, there's a flashback of how Don Lockwood rose to fame. The scene uses dissolve from Don's close up shot of his face to the flashback scene of him and Cosmos. This transition was used because it makes it seem as if Don is actively thinking about that time as he is talking about it, and helps the audience naturally also absorb themselves into the scene as Don is retelling it.
