- Over here, He had proper training and was really happy. He used to train from morning till dinner. This made his touch and skills perfect. By age 8, Many coaches recognized his talent and the NEWBOYS academy was not a challenge anymore. He was unstoppable in his matches and it felt like he was on cloud nine. But his first real challenge came to view
- Lionel Messi is considered by many to be the best footballer in the world. He was born in 1987 in Rosario, Argentina
- Since a young age, Lionel was exposed to football. He showed a lot of interest in the sport so his parents decided to take him to the NEWBOYS Football academy. (Age 6)
- He found out he had a growth issue which meant he would have to take expensive injections everyday to be able to play football. His parents were not able to afford it and it looked like it was all over. But his life took a turn.
- Everyday he came early and stayed late. When his teammates saw him in training they told the coach he was more than worthy to try out for the Starting XI. He was determined and his request was finally accepted - He could train and play for the Starting XI on alternate days.
- The coach of Barcelona had recognized his talent and offered the family an offer; They will pay for the injections but in return Messi had to play for them. It was his only chance. He took it. He left his mom and brothers and came with his dad to spain.
- His skill level was quickly picked up by the coach of the A team and after only a week he was allowed to play full time. His dream came true. At age 17, He was lined up with some of the best players in the world - Iniesta, Xavi, Ronaldinho etc.
- Eventually the doctor said he will be 5'8 - Good enough to be a footballer. He was Overjoyed and felt one step closer to his dream. With this new found confidence, he rose through the ranks, all the way to the reserve team. A young 15 year old reaching this far so quick was unprecedented
