  • Story: Perseus and Medusa Novel: Men and Gods - Myths, Legends of the Ancient Greeks by Rex Warner. The main character Perseus had to bring back the severed head of Medusa in order to free his mother who was made to be the King's slave since she refused to marry him. Here is the First-Person Point of View account of how Perseus achieved his task.
  • First Person Point of View as told by Perseus.
  • There is nothing that could stop me from claiming the head of Medusa! The Gods have guided me well! Must heed the warning not to look directly at her or else I will turn into stone and my mother's fate will be doomed!
  • It chilled me to see so many stone warriors. But I have Hades' Helm of Darkness to keep me invisible, Hermes' winged sandals to fly, Hesperides' knapsack to bag Medusa's severed head, my father Zeus' adamantine sword and best of all, Athena's shiny shield which I plan to use to look at Medusa's reflection.
  • As luck would have it, I safely passed her sisters since I was invisible, and there, sound asleep, was Medusa. Still, I approached cautiously, my thoughts on the safety of my mother. Adrenaline rushed through me as I swiftly pulled my sword and with one strike, severed Medusa's head!
  • With no time to spare and using my polished shield to guide me, I quickly placed her head in the knapsack. Something strange was happening to her dripping blood ...Snakes! Her blood was turning into snakes! I need to move faster!
  • Victory is mine! You snakes can't catch me! My winged sandals will save me! Now, all I have to do is fly back home to Seriphos as fast as I can to deliver Medusa's head to Polydectes and free my beloved Mother!
