Encourage teamwork by dividing students into small groups and assigning each group a set of characters from Amal Unbound. Collaborative mapping helps students deepen their understanding and learn from peers.
Designate groups and let each group choose or assign a recorder, artist, and presenter. Clear roles keep everyone involved and ensure every student participates.
Prompt students to discuss their assigned characters’ traits, challenges, and relationships. Encourage citing evidence from the text to support their character analyses for a more text-based and accurate map.
Supply materials like chart paper, markers, or digital tools. Let groups design their maps—adding visuals, quotes, and color coding—to make connections and character details stand out.
Have each group present their character maps. Facilitate a class discussion on how the characters interact and impact the story. Reflection helps students synthesize and compare their findings.
