- Lady named Mathilde lives in poverty in Paris, in a wore-up house and married to Ministry of Public Instruction. When being invited to the palace of the Ministry, she was getting ready, and found the diamond necklace, and she was happy to put it on and go to the palace of the Ministry.
- Climax
- After Mathilde and her husband went to the party, they left the palace at 4 o'clock in the morning, and went to Seine, they went home, but the that's when Mathilde has lost her diamond necklace.
- Falling Action
- In the morning , Mathilde and Loisel was shocked that the necklace has been lost, and the necklace has not been found in any route they been in from the ministry palace to the cab company. In 5 years later, Loisel want to replace the necklace and buy a fake version of the diamond necklace.
- Conclusion
- Mathilde and Loisel has to collect 40 thousand francs to get the replacement of necklace, Loisel uses 18 thousand francs his father left him and gave up everything he has. Loisel finally brought the necklace and gave to Mme. Forestier, who didn't open the case. Mathilde and Loisel have to pay back the debt.
- After 10 years, life of Mathilde and Loisel have changed, they moved in the smaller apartment, and they have aged for 10 years. But they were able to pay off their debt.
- When Mathilde went outside and greets Jeanne, she told Jeanne that she had lost the necklace, but Jeanne said Mathilde brought it to her. At the end, Jeanne told Mathilde that the necklace was worth 500 francs.
